As long as it is not all the front row seats, I am ok. So there are 20 seats available - 10 go to the highest bidder and 10 to the people that get there first.

it uis probably the only time the parents will see their kids all year so why not get them to pay up to do it.

I think it is a great idea for a fundraiser.

Someone has to sit there. If not the richest, it would be the pushiest or the parent with the most free time who can get there the earliest to save seats.

And quite frankly, in an auditorium, the front row is not the best seat. Third or fourth row center is.

Everything is up for high bid at schools that charge tuition. You'd be shocked at how much people will pay for front-of-the-line carpool rights, Gym-naming rights, principal for the day, etc etc. It's a fundraiser; it's optional; you still have the good free publics if you prefer.

Why is there even a kindergarten graduation?

What about a raffle for those seats? Yes, more affluent parents would put in for the raffle, but at least it isn't an auction.

Its a fundraiser for the school. It costs nothing to provide and people are willing to pay money for it. So either there is a new computer in the library or there is reserved seating for the first row for K graduation.

We did this for several events at my son's private school. It was always a hit. If your arguement is that the rich parents get better seats, it could be made that the more aggressive parents got them by pushing their way through the crowds or the stay-a-home parent that was able to be first in line got them if they weren't auctioned off.

I do think for an item like that, parents should be able to use volunteer hours the same as cash to bid on them.

OP here. Sorry I was not clear. This is at a Catholic School in MD. They auction off front row seats at kindergarten graduation as a fundraiser. My kids don't attend the school, but apparently one of my FB friends was the high bidder on the seats, so I know about it. I find it pretty distasteful, for reasons that 9:37 articulated.

So the more affluent parents will have a better chance of seeing their kids up close than the less privileged? Disgusting.

Please do us all a favor and complain about it (get other parents to back you up as well). I don't want that filthy mentality contaminating my child's preschool.

There are plenty of other items the schools can sell that do not place a monetary value on your relationship with your child at their K "graduation". Our school has an Auction Night, a bake sale before the Holidays, the Scholastic Book Fair, etc.

Whatever your thoughts are regarding kindergarten graduation, I find the auctioning off of the front row seats distasteful. Thoughts?
