My ears feel your pain, OP. Some conversation-friendly faves: Nora, Persimmon, Buck's. Or, go early to the places that get loud and crowded later.

As I lie on my couch recovering from a headache I got from sitting in a thump thump thump restaurant, I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions about good restaurants and bars in DC or just outside DC that are not super loud.

When I go out to a restaurant with my friends, I want to be able to hear them when they speak. So many of the new restaurants are just very loud to the point where I almost don't even enjoy going to them. I can't hear my friends, I get hoarse from yelling to my friends, and I sometimes get a headache.

Suggestions?
