I love the word prattling. I haven't used it on this board but I am often tempted to use it in conversation. It seems like it's usually used appropriately and certainly no ruder than 1/2 the posts on here. Often posters do prattle on.

Doesn't matter how you justify it, this is rude and unnecessary. Can you stop it? Kind of ruins the experience for those of us with basic reading comprehension skills and advice to give.

You kinda sound like a bully defending her bullying ways. Just sayin'.

If you find this so rude that it's devastating and you have to complain about it to the moderator, Internet discourse might not be suitable for you.

Give me a break. I wrote that it's rude and I'm not the OP. Why do people like you try to insult others on this site for no reason.

Don't you roll your eyes at me. I wasn't insulting you. I am merely making the suggestion that you (or in this case, OP) develop thicker skin.

It is an expression. And considering the word "cunt" was mentioned more than three times that amount, I'd say "prattling on about" is OK.

I see it as well and it does seem rather troll-ish to me as well. I've never heard the expression in real life and it just reads as a grammatical train wreck and generically rude. It doesn't point to any specific issue but is meant to insult the OP for some un-named reason. I mean, does anyone actually say that or is it just a phrase used for spamming?

And by the way, 127 times (not 140) over how many tens of thousands of posts on DCUM over at least two years... And rarely as the first response as you describe -- more frequently in a heat of an argument on like the 5th or 6th screen.

Just saying. Is it dismissive? Sure. Are worse things said with regularity on DCUM? Absolutely.

This is a typical thread that elicits the "prattling on about" slapdown from me:

I'll cop to using it. With some frequency. But I generally tend to limit its use to rambling, incoherent posts or to call out threads that are obviously trollish or otherwise obnoxious.

Also, honestly haven't used it that much recently. Maybe once or twice in the last month.

Jeff, I hit search and found 140 instances. Just an expression?

I don't see that remark very often. Could you please use the "report" button to report it when you see it? If a single poster is disrupting multiple threads, I'll do something about it.

Is this a common expression or only one poster? I noticed that this remark is usually the second or third reply to new threads. Obnoxious and gives the thread a bad start. If it is only a few posters, could you please cut it out? It is not helping anyone.
