I think it depends on age, gender, relationship, location of the kiss.... generally, no, not a good idea. If the teacher is so close to your family that they come to graduation (just to see your kid) then I could see a hug and peck on the cheek.

So the consensus is that this shouldn't be happening. That's what my gut told me as well.

Really? Maybe it is cultural but this completely bothers me.

Agree. My sons daycare had a no kissing rule, but I did see the caregivers give young children kisses on the forehead or cheek. I'm fine with that. I think it changes once they are in school. My children are now in a private school. I would be shocked to see a first grade teacher kiss a child - not horrified, just shocked. However, I wouldn't be shocked to see my sons PK teacher give him a kiss. Children (and parents) expect affection from Caregivers more than teachers. PK still fall into caregivers category since children still need a lot of assistance.

It's not appropriate. But my reaction would depend on the child's age and the situation.

Follow up question. If you find out a teacher has been kissing your child's face, what would you do? Anything?

Never, male or female teacher. However, I am fine with a congratulatory or platonic comforting hug if the situation warrants it. Like a missed basket with 3 seconds left, an admittance to a desired college, a fall resulting in a boo-boo, etc. You get my drift.

Unless the student is a very young infant or toddler... no.

Hugs are ok. Kisses are not. That is what we teach our kids and what I teach my students when teaching about boundaries. We also had the school counselor come and in and talk about safe touch and she taught the same thing.

Does this cross a boundary or is it okay under certain circumstances?
