Hmm one study says the lethal does is only 15 grams. That would definitely freak me out if my family were eating it.

It would probably worry me too much to eat them. But honestly a lot of food has naturally occurring oxalic acid in it, so if it was a tiny amount and you rinsed it, it should be fine.

Wash them really well and move on, the dirt they were grown in is likely full of worse things than the barkeepers friend.

I had just finished soaking my black beans and had them straining in a colendar on one side of the divided sink. On the other side, I was cleaning a pan and carelessly sprinkled some barkeeper's friend. A little of the powder sprinkled onto the beans. I starting spraying them immediately to rinse it off. I've spot tasted a few beans and didn't taste anything, so I put them back in the pan and have started cooking them for our black bean soup dinner. But, I know this will be in my head the entire time we're eating them, if I proceed.

Would you use them?
