My hometown is in the Midwest. Not as easy as Reston, but not as hard as California.
The move is extremely important to our family, and even if they say no we've decided we'll move back home anyway. We've been in DC for several years now, and do not want to stay long term.

I think that this is a wise decision for now. It sounds like you will be in good shape for a transfer in two or three years, whether internally or to another company.
