We fit the britax infant rear facing seat in the subie with room to spare...really roomy...in the mazda cx5 I have to keep the handle up, for comparison.

We got a 2014 Outback at Beyer Subaru in Alexandria. They were great and we love the car. We are still using the Britax Chaperone and it fits easily. I am not worried about a convertible carseat fitting. The 2014's (and I think the 2013's) are much bigger than the older Outbacks after a redesign. Very roomy and comfortable inside.

We have a Britax Boulevard and a 2011 Subaru Outback; the seat fits just fine, although it is a little cramped width wise in the backseat with the seat installed in the center seat. Not terrible, but my shoulder touches the seat. The Locks system is only on the sides, not the center, so we installed with a belt.

We got a 2014 outback at Fitzgerald. Best price among Stohlman and two other dealers I can't remember. Agree w others -- outback is very roomy inside.

We test drove one with our Chicco NextFit and it fit great! The NextFit will rear face until most children are 4, and as PP stated, leg length is not important! Kids are more comfy crossing their legs anyway!

+1 but with a Britax Marathon or Roundabout. Can't remember which is in which car. Either way, DC is still rear-facing in the Outback at age 2.5 - plenty of room!

We're out of town, but our dealer here said we could take the test drive car home for the day to install the carseat and drive DV around town to see how it felt. We didn't do it - could eyeball the space just fine - but we appreciated the offer. Subaru dealerships are usually very nice and easy to deal with. You could always ask.

We have an older subaru outback impreza (an impreza with a hatchback - their naming convention is confusing) and a new subaru outback. Both are GREAT cars and we love them. The new outback easily fits a rear facing convertible car seat. We bought ours from Fitzgerald. I bet they would let you test drive it with the car seat in to make it fit.

The newer Marathons have a slightly shorter shell than the ones about 4-5 yrs ago had. Can you take the car for a test drive and head to a store where you can get a carseat to try out? I know that BRU lets you use the floor model if you leave your DL at the service desk.

P.s new out backs are much larger than PPs 12 year old outback.

We have a Subaru Outback, but bought used when 12 years old, so no advice on dealers.

We use the Britax Marathon. I did some online research and someone said it was one of the few that fit well into the Outback rearfacing. It's working well for us.

Baby soon ready to be in convertible car seat and long long legs.

Our current car is barely functioning and we need a new one. We were thinking of the Outback and wondered how roomy it was in the back with a rear facing convertible car seat and a skinny but leggy kid.

Thoughts overall about the Subaru? If in DC, what dealer do you like?
