I used a lady in Burke, VA (she goes to FL in the Winter though) twice - once for a sorority t-shirt quilt (12 years ago and it is still in great shape) and recently this past summer I had a baby/kids size quilt made of my daughter's baby items. She cute it all into small squares. I just brought what I wanted to use - some cute outfits, dresses, newborn hospital cap, hospital blanket. She added fabric/trim to make it larger and on the back (you can chose what you want - she has tons of fabric) It was expensive - $400 but I'm betting it will hold up just as nice as my sorority quilt. A crib sized quilt shouldn't be anymore than 200.00. A queen size one 96x96 is around 500-600.00 depending on the fabric used and the backing. Most quilters that Ive worked with prefer cutting the clothing themselves. 6-6.5 inch squares are recommended if you want to do that yourself. The type of clothing doesn't really matter. Just keep the size of the squares in mind so that the "cutest" part of the outfit makes it onto the quilt.

I use two ladies in Utah and don't have any recommendations for this area. Not sure what county you are in but MoCo Rec Centers have those quilting classes for the retired crowd maybe you can find a sweet woman there who could help.

tip: Woven fabrics work better for this sort of thing than knits. Check Etsy.

Hello. I'd like to have some of DS' infant and toddler clothes made into a blanket. This is completely new territory for me, so I'll have to admit that I don't know what types of clothes are best and how big each square would need to be. Can anyone recommend a website or someone here in DC that they've used for this? I imagine this won't be cheap, but I'm willing to spend some for obvious sentimental reasons. Thanks.
