I don't think it's just the former Catholics, although they get props in the hate department.

Is the criticism really of Catholics, or is it of the Church and its hierarchy?

Former Catholic here. It's me.

I've never posted anything about other religions on here (including Catholicism), but is it really that difficult to understand the criticism? My aunt is very outspoken about the horrors of Catholicism and she has many valid points, even if her message gets lost with that little bit of crazy thrown in there.

I vote that it's the formerly-Catholic agnostics.

No, there is truly one or two really crazy anti-Catholic posters.

I've read posts here for two years. There isn't just an anti-catholic attitude. It is also anti-evangelical, anti-mormon, anti-local mega churches. Just go to the religion section and read down. Every post is someone just trying to stir the pot.

But as a general policy, don't feed the trolls.

Actually there is is one rabid Catholic-hater who claims to be Jewish, and sometimes she'll show up to talk about the Inquisition and medieval brothels run by the Catholic Church. While I can understand about the Inquisition (and I'm not Catholic), the medieval Catholic brothels thing seemed psychotic. But who really knows if these psychos are who they say they are.

Other (semi-former) Catholics like myself. If the Bishops would listen to Pope Frank about de-emphasizing their obsessions with hating gays, birth control and abortion, then the church wouldn't scare me off.

Eh, that person and a few others are always here. We learn to skip over their posts.

I'm not Catholic, but there definitely is a lot of criticism on here about them. Just wondering who the critics are. Atheist? Evangelical? Baptist? Jewish?
