Girls seem to be much more promiscuous today. Is it me or am I correct? Much bolder, more assertive and not at all bashful about going after whatever they want.

Hell, 2 of the girls in my freshman year dorm had slept with their high school teachers.

This was my experience too - except no one married a professor. At Georgetown.

Think it happens everywhere. I personally don't think its so unethical lets say its a young professor like 29 and hes dating a 20 year old, whats the big deal? A 65 year old with an 18 year old...thats just gross.

OP here I would rather not say. First because I don't want to paint her school in a negative light, its one of this countries greatest institutions with and its been a fantastic experience for her. Second, I believe this happens across the board not just at her college.

I had a huge crush on my psych professor when I was in school. There's no doubt he was waiting for a signal from me, the attraction was undeniable. In the end it felt too risky and I started dating someone who I am now married to!

I think this happens way more than people realize. Not always full blown relationships but flings and one nighters. Power and authority are huge turn ons then if you had a good looking older guy to the mix it can be explosive.

Maybe it's the crowd your daughter chooses to hang around with. I have 4 college aged nieces and nephews and not one of them mentioned this.

This is interesting...

While I would have a hard time accepting it. It would be largely circumstantial. How old he is? Is he another professor or HER professor?

It is not a new thing that students sleep with their professors. It has been happening as long as there have been Professors and students.

Have heard of it here and there. I personally don't really have a big problem with it both people over 21 (assuming) though I wouldn't want my kids to be engaged in such a relationship to each his own.

Totally unethical, but it happened in my day on occasion as well. Not some brand new thing.

I realize a lot has changed since I went to college almost 20 years ago however I have to say I was totally shocked overhearing a conversation between my D and her two friends that she brought home for a short college break.
We were at dinner and they were somewhat talking amongst themselves and I overheard one of them refer to someone they know and how she is sleeping with Professor X. They said it so nonchalantly that it took me aback for a minute. Then they proceeded to talk about the flings various people have had with various professors. I tried not to flinch so they would keep on talking, my H was engrossed in a conversation with others at the table (we were a large group) but when I had my daughter alone for a few minutes the next day I told her I could not but overhear the conversation and that it really surprised me. And she basically shrugged her shoulders and said that it would surprise me even more if I knew how rampant it is.

This was news to me! Maybe its one of those "college secrets" that people know but don't talk about? It is commonplace? I know they are both consenting adults but still, it seems wrong/unethical for a professor or any age to be sleeping with a student. I was really surprised at how cavalier her attitude was but shes very liberal and open minded AND young! Call me old fashioned but this had me thinking. What do you think? Maybe more common that we realize?
