The smell indicates that there is off gassing. You don't want to be around that when you are pregnant. Plus, it may make you nauseous

Are you a married two car couple? Could dh drive the new car for the first six months or so (windows down when able) while you drive his car?

These people are a holes. Yes, it is a concern. Probably wouldn't stop me from getting a car- but I would be more apt to roll the windows down and get fresh air.

When my first was born, there was also a report on the off gassing of certain car seats. Luckily, although hers was on the list, it wasn't one of the worst offenders.

These people criticizing you probably don't have any medical issues with their kids, but both mine have had some that could have been influenced by their environment. Then you look back as a parent and wonder what you could have done differently. Just because they did it and all was well, doesn't mean it isn't always well. Or that 10 years later it will be.

What is up with this forum? Any time someone asks about a concern there is always this response about how crazy the OP is and how are they going to handle being a mother? Please tell me this is the same few people posting each time. Is this how you support your partner and kid when they ask a question you find ridiculous? Enough already.

It's fine. Roll down the windows if it bothers you. Baby is fine. Got a new car at 6 months pregnant, all was well.

I would add that it probably matters how much time you would be spending in the car. If you'd be in there for an hour a day commuting to work every day, I'd be cautious. If you just used the car for errands or whatever or mostly on weekends, then that would be better.

I've read that the off-gassing of new cars is especially bad. I'd probably avoid it during the first half of a pregnancy, then use the vent or roll a window down slightly after that.

Would you buy a new car while pregnant and if so, would you be concerned about inhaling the new car smell and potential effects on the fetus?
