You are either new to the area or are pretty young.

Illegal immigration was a big problem back in the 80's and 90's. The kids entering school now are the kids of those kids whose parents were illegal back then. In other words, the kids now are born here to parents who were born here.

The FCPS report states that Hispanic students represent 25.0% of the elementary population and 23.6% of the total FCPS population as of 9/30/13.

If that bothers some whites so much, they should (1) have more kids, (2) ask the county to tear down the aging housing that not many people other than poor Hispanics want to live in these days; (3) elect local politicians who will aggressively seek to crack down on illegals and/or (4) move to North Arlington, which is jammed full of white families who have perfected the art of seeking out other white people for neighbors and then expressing their dismay at the lack of diversity in their 85% white elementary schools.

It's not the fault of FCPS, however. Its mission is to teach all the kids who show up for an education.

Notice the percentage of farms always equals the percentage.

They need to determine if these students are consuming excessive resources.

The students are here and unless they are being deported, they need an education. The Supreme Court agreed more than 30 years ago.

I am wrong about the 26%, the article does not specify other than to say more than a quarter.

The article says no such thing, please read more carefully.

An article from yesterday's Fairfax Times, which discusses (albeit briefly) some of the demographic changes that have taken place in FCPS. Again, it is important in any growing, ever-changing metropolitan area to evaluate the needs of its residents, and innovate in ways that best educate and advance all of FCPS students.
