We diversified ours into stocks/bonds/real estate. Seemed to be a good strategy. We own houses/land in multiple states which has either held it's own, or appreciated (location, location, location). Also put some into a college fund for the kids.

Have spent WAY too much lately, but we are both working at things we like to do, so that's helped.

I think she meant "signing" bonus.

I was a paper millionaire in the 90s but couldn't sell my stock. When the restriction finally lifted the crash was well underway, and I only had enough to buy a car (Audi TT) and pay for law school. I'm a happy lawyer now.

Bought a beach house, took a few years off work, worked part time...ah, those were the days, Nasdaq 5000, baby! (See the thread on the 90s!)

I think you are trying to play the lottery and win again. You won once. You were lucky. Don't get greedy.

Went into the sizeable downpayment for my first house and that equity has carried over various houses over the years. So I'm still enjoying the benefits to some extent today. Wow - that feels like a few lifetimes ago!

I'm a boring lawyer now. Made a good amount in the 90s which buys nice stuff and paid for my house, but that's about it.

I made some money in the late 90s from a (once) popular travel website. Sold my ownership early on, invested some and then followed a few start ups for the rest of my single/adventurous years. I never hit the jackpot twice and eventually settled into a normal job and family life. The investment has taken a lot of hits (hello 2008) but has been doing well recently and I day dream about what creative project I can cook up with it. Alas, the sensible/older me knows that it will most likely just be rolled into retirement/kids college. Just curious what other late 90s/early 00 techies are doing!
