If your kids come to my house with their UNICEF box, I will be depositing candy in it.

I'm suspicious of any charity that goes around parents' backs to recruit kids to pan handle to fill their coffers.

I'm anti-unicef for the way that they force everyone to contribute at my employer. I don't do it and I'm amazed at how much I get harassed by it.

The box is meant to collect coins, not benjamins.

I have sometimes felt bad I don't have any handy to give, but I was always glad to see a kid collecting for unicef.

How are you on the spot?

NP here. I am opposed to door-to-door donation collecting and putting my neighbors on the spot. It's rude and tacky. They are there trying to give out candy, not money. They can donate on their own time and in their own way. I would never allow my child to do that. Thankfully I've never heard of a school doing this before this thread.

Yup. I'm almost 28 and remember having them in elementary school growing up.

I agree it's not a big deal either way but I can't imagine anyone who is actively anti-UNICEF.

DC comes home with a collection box for UNICEF and tells us that he is to take it with him trick or treating and ask for donations for kids "who don't have homes, enough to eat, or shoes on their feet."

Anybody else's kid come home from school with the UNICEF donation box?

Do you think this is a school initiative or something that originated from the teacher?

I don't want to make a big deal about it. It just seems a little odd since other school-sponsored drives have given parents more discretion over whether they want to participate or not. I'm not used to them appealing directly to DC.
