Seriously, look around, is this the largest middle class neighborhood you've ever seen?

Truly wealthy people appreciate the quirky, the unique, the meaningful. Not the boring, the bland, the 'what everyone thinks princesses live in'. Blarg. Have a lovely, large, unique home that fits your personality and your family. Not a big box you (and everyone else) fit into.

Hmm I tend to use the term for when a brand new 4500 sq ft house is built on a 6000 sq ft lot, which happens a lot in my close-in neighborhood (so it's not a real mansion...)

I thought a McMansion is a big house on a small lot where it takes up 3/4 of a lot and butts up against the other houses. Or on medium lots where all the houses in the development look the same.
You can definitely have new large houses that are not mcMansions. They just have to be done well.

Big, ugly, crappy architecture, expensive.

We call certain houses McMansions because they are ugly and tasteless. if they weren't ugly or tasteless, we would just call them houses. There are plenty of bigger houses that look good.

Personally, I'd rather own something smaller with more architectural style, closer-in than most of the mcmansions I've seen. If you feel differently, that's cool. But I'm allowed to think your house is ugly, just as you're allowed to think my house is ugly. It doesn't mean either of us is jealous of the other; it means that we have different priorities in our housing purchases.

I think I may also be living in a mcmansion too OP!! Oh the humanity!

As far as I'm aware, the criteria for a mcmansion are the following:

1. newer construction (2000 or later)
2. you don't like it and need to call it a derogatory term

This is similar to "shitshack" which is the following:

1. Older construction (basically anything before the 90s)
2. You don't like it and need to call it a derogatory term

On the bright side at least these people are taking out their frustration on houses and not minority groups, right?
