OP here - well the tide seems to be turning on the responses. I will wait to see more responses and perhaps rethink our strategy.

OP here - glad so many people said it was okay. I think both DH and i want to be with our kids, even as they get older. But i was worried with so many people saying that one parent stayed home to hand out candy. I dont want to miss out! Will do the bowl!

Not rude. First, there are still tons of houses that have candy. And you can also leave out a bowl. A lot of houses that we visited last year did that. If you don't leave out some candy, turn off the lights so it's clear to the kids that your house is not participating.

Besides, a very little one won't be out long, so you'll still be home to see a lot of the trick-or-treaters.

No. Just leave a bowl and sign out front. You can hand out candy to the late-comers when you get back.

Our youngest still needs to be carried, so both DH and i plan to take them trick-or-treating. But even next year i think we would still all go together. Is that rude for no one to answer the door?
