I stopped shopping at Giant and Safeway due to rotten food all around the second I was within in 20 minuets of a Wegmans. I drive by no less than 5 grocery stores to get to Wegmans.

In moments of dire desperation I will go to Harris Teeter.

OP again,

I'm not sure what the news bit was about, but in my personal experience, I quit shopping at mine about 3-4 years ago because every time I bought meat there (with an okay expiration date), it would be green on the other side or smell like rotten eggs so I knew it was bad. And it was like every time. Something must have changed at my store I figured. But then my nanny said she heard some news about it today, but I couldn't find anything so I am wondering if she just heard about the chicago owned chain (that was selling bad meat).

Expired according to whom? They place new "sell by" stickers on meat all the time.

I found expired chicken twice at the Safeway on 4th St in SW.

My nanny heard some news that Safeway has been selling expired meat (which was always the case at the one in Tysons/McLean). I cant find any news story online about it, except about some 18000 packages of chicken were sold with salmonella recently.
