A little better, from my DH's experience. It helps if you can flex early.

I will be going back to work in alexandria or dc and need to be the closer to the kids since I'm the primary pick up person. DH also travels a lot.

Why not just move to Herndon? Then your husband could actually see his family for an extra hour each day?

We're in Madison Manor. Pretty darn neighborhoody, although houses aren't as big or expensive as in country club hills.

25-30min door to door to my office in Herndon. Coming home is more like 35-40 because I-66 gets backed up.

Yes DH takes toll road and it's paid for by company which is a big perk and part of the reason why the express lanes have been great coming from Alexandria. Not much flexibility on times. 9-5 is the minimum. Sometimes goes in early and stays late but can't flex and go in early to leave early (if that makes sense). Just trying to get a sense of the commute from the country club hills area.

What time of day, and are you willing to take the toll road? If you head out Lee Highway and get on 66 right at East Falls Church, it's no more than about 20 minutes from that point. Outbound on the toll road is usually smooth sailing, even at 8:30 in the morning. Then it just depends how far off the toll road the office is.

Coming home is the bigger pain in the neck, as you have to get in with all the people coming inbound to get on the beltway and then the backup to get back on to 66.

If you have the option, I'd get in and leave as early as possible. As long as you're on the Toll Road coming inbound by about 4:15, it's okay. Unless it rains and then it can take 3 hours.

What makes it not "neughborhoody". There are lots of great neighborhoods there.


I commuted from Falls church city to Herndon for awhile. It was 20 minutes in the morning because traffic was usually fine. 45 or more minutes in the evening because traffic was much worse, especially getting onto 66.

I'm not sure if we would want to move to the east falls church area. We like a more neighborhoody feel like country club hills or where we currently are in alexandria.

Commute would be even better if you lived close to the E. Falls Church exit off 66 because of toll road access.

We currently live in Alexandria and DH takes the express lanes part of the way to Herndon and back which helps a lot. Sometimes he still gets stuck but most of the time it's 45 minutes to an hour. Would the commute from N. Arlington (say country club hills) be any better or about the same?
