You can also cook it..eat some and freeze the rest. I did not think you were supposed to refreeze it raw though.

You CAN refreeze defrosted meat. I've done it for years and it was still good when I cooked it.

If you didn't freeze it until the use or freeze by date, then I would cook it as soon as its defrosted.
You are supposed to use chicken within 2 days of whenever you buy it, regardless of the sell by date.

5 days for refrigerated cooked food.

3 days in the refrigerator for uncooked.

And once meat is defrosted, you can refreeze it if you decide not to cook it.

Learned all this in 4 years of Home Ec.

I admit up front that I am not much of a cook, so maybe this is a dumb question. I have chicken that I froze on the use or freeze by date. If I defrost it, and make a crockpot recipe, how long do I have to eat the resulting dish? It is just me and my child, so we would probably take a few days of leftovers to eat it all.
