+1

Heat pumps have come a long way in the last couple of decades, but gas is still often cheaper.

I have electric A/C but everything else is gas. In previous house, I had all electric. It is more expensive to have all electric then to do electric a/c and gas heat.

Hope this helps.

It does depend on many factors, however a brand new, high efficiency electric heat pump system is competitive with a gas furnace in our region with has a lot of cool but not freezing weather.
I see people splitting the difference by having a hybrid system using electric AC/heat pump plus a gas furnace.

If you're looking for lowest up front cost and operating costs, just go with a gas furnace.

Gas is generally cheaper. I lived in a house with all electric and now with mostly gas. Gas is much cheaper.

I'm sure there are lots of variables, but I'm going for generalities here...
