I think people joke because of the label of paleo/primal--we are eating like our caveman ancestors! Here's my honey sweetened almond flour muffin! And my pomegranate glazed pork loin. It's not *really* how our ancestors ate.
Also the insistence that some foods that could be otherwise healthy for someone else (quinoa, black beans) are terrible for us because a million years ago we didn't eat quinoa. Well, we didn't eat coconut oil chocolate mint bon bons either, but there are paleo recipes for that.
Signed...someone who did the whole 30 to a tee and didn't feel all the wonderful results other people do. I certainly thin being paleo can be hugely beneficial to some, but certainly not all people in the world.
