I don't think the PP is being preachy at all and I totally disagree that it's common knowledge about diet. Do you remember that Time magazine article a few years back that talked about how exercise is making people fat b/c while more people are working out now, they're also using their workouts as an excuse to eat really fattening foods, under the guise of "well hey, I rode my ass of on that spinning bike for 45 minutes, so I deserve a double bacon cheeseburger and a brownie sundae." There is a very prevalent mentality that working out equals being able to eat whatever you want and it's obviously not true but that's more common "knowledge" than the opposite.
