I think you both are too far apart in temperature preferences. You need to work out who is willing to move, where, and when, then together go inform the boss. Don't ask permission, INFORM him of the plan.

I hate the idea that you can throw on layers and not be cold anymore! I'm like the OP and when it gets as cold as she describes, my fingers hardly work. You can't wear gloves while you're at your desk most days. I'd buy a bigger space heater and/or request to be moved. Good luck!

I would freeze at 66 too. Is telecommuting not an option? I share an office with a woman who likes the lights on and I like them off. We manage to deal with this because we only share the office two days a week and rotate telecommuting the rest of the time.

I'm sorry, but menopausal women like room temperature to be unbearably cold.

I say she needs to give in to a reasonable middle ground...say 67 or 68?

60 degrees is a ridiculous indoor temperature in any shared space.

I think you're exaggerating. But if that's the case and your officemate isn't psychopathic, you can probably agree on a normal temperature (68°?) and then go get a thermometer and use it.

Suggest to your office mate that you two have irreconcilable temperature differences and try to figure out who should move where, then propose the move to your boss. You two are not compatible officemates. Does something make your office more desirable than the others? Why did she want to move in with you?

At our office the hot person always "wins". People who like the office warmer are expected to put on another layer.

I think that the person who is cold will have to give a little. OP, I used to work in a very cold office and I just drank hot water with lemon all day and wore a scarf. It was fine.

I now work in a boiler and it's AWFUL. I sweat and then am embarrassed when I meet clients and look like hell by the end of the day. Heat should be set at 66-69 during the winter.

72 is really hot if it is via heater! If its summer and you are wearing summer clothes that is one thing but to crank up the heat that high and then try to work is awful.

You two need to switch offices. This isn't going to work.

In my agency we all share two person offices, but most of ours our singletons right now. I’m known around the office as the tropical room and I’ve had this office for 4 years. I’m a petite woman and am always cold. 65 degree offices have me shivering daily even with pants, sweaters and blankets. My previous boss purchased a personal heater for my office and it’s been heaven. New officemate is a menopausal woman who’s heavier and is sweating.

I’m not even sure there can be a middle ground in our temperature war. She has the AC on full blast and I have my heater on low. I like the office around 72, which isn’t even THAT warm. I think the consensus around the office is that I’m being rude by making her sweat and that I should just shiver instead.

She knew my office was warmer and I think she should have requested someone else’s office when they transferred her. We’re both miserable and boss doesn't care.

Anyone else in the same boat? Misery loves company!
