Huh? Since when is it not okay on this forum to criticize FCPS? My gosh, I know the marketing they do is that it's just the very best district in the whole world, but not all of us are so enraptured. And yes, I specified AAP-type programs were my interest, since "better" is vague, subjective, and would vary from family to family, depending what you're looking for. Some one else's idea of "better" schools might be schools with more arts and music offerings, schools with stronger sports, schools with foreign language components, schools known for great special needs program, etc.

FYI, the snowflake metaphor is beyond hackneyed and no longer achieves the cutting, witty derision you seek to effect.

Um??? Are you suggesting that I'm lying? You are welcome to look at the program yourself. We were living in Clayton, a suburb outside of Raleigh. She was in the Johnston County School District. Kids in the "highly gifted program" spent one full day each week at the highly gifted center in Smithfield.

She is a sophomore in college now so it's been many years, but I think they still offer the same program.

NP: I looked online and it seems that their standard is the 98th, 99th percentile type thing, like here, but they have an additional highly gifted program, so two levels.

Where are you in the county and why are you disappointed? (class sizes, curriculum, children's behavior, teracher qualifications, administration.....)

We have lived all over the country and I must say, fcps is pretty darn good as far as elementary schools go.

In fact, you will be very hard pressed to find better elementary schools anywhere else in the country.

Have you considered homeschooling?
