Keep a few pieces, sell a few pieces. Put the money in the college fund and don't breathe a word of it to anyone. Even Miss Manners says its ok to do what you wish with gifts as long as you've written a thank you note!

Wow, are so out of touch with your reality that they would give such gifts? I'm kind of blown away by why they would do that. Why not send a gift card?
Bizarre to give someone you well know could use more basic things a $100 sleeper.

Agree with 21:53. They gave the gift, you thank them profusely, and now its yours to do with as you wish. The photo op is a great idea.

I'd shove the baby in some of the clothes, take a pic, send it to the relatives with the thank you note, and then return or sell them. I'd never tell a soul.

No! The point I was making about the jeans is that we just do not have expensive clothes like that in our family. Not that I am planning on buying them.

I sell my expensive baby clothes after they outgrow them. So maybe stick a few pieces in the back of the closet...they'll be outgrown very soon. 
But, yes, to answer your question, it is sort of horrible, unless you for sure use the $$ for other baby items.

My SIL and her husband are of a very different income bracket than my family. They have a history of giving us extremely overpriced gifts that are nice but just not well suited to us and awkwardly expensive. We are much more basic people!
Anyway they just sent us new baby clothes for our child from a pricey pricey brand. Think about $600 worth of clothes, but only a handful of outfits. Including a small lovey type toy that retails for $75 or so. This is crazy to me as we buy our baby clothes mostly from consignment sales and yard sales. I think the most we have ever paid for a baby outfit is probably $15 and that seems quite steep to me.
Anyway we almost never see this branch of the family so they will not really get to see the baby in the clothes. Would it be totally awful of us to sell some of the items? It seems so weird to me to put my baby in a $100 sleeper so they can poop and pee on it. For reference I really want some new jeans for myself and found perfect ones recently but they were $60 so I passed on them. Spending this kind of money on baby clothes seems crazy!
We probably wont sell the items but just curious if it seems horrible to do so. I won't lie - I considered it!
