I just read The Orphan Master's Son and loved it. It would be a great bookclub book.

Ooooh, I'd not seen that list before. I loved both The Lacuna and Bel Canto, the only two of those I've read. I'll have to keep the list handy and check out some others.

I just finished The Orchardist and it was lovely. Recommended by NPR. It's sad and moving but also interesting and well written I think.

Jhumpa Lahiri's The Lowland was just nominated for the National Book Award. I'm a snobby English major who also reads lowbrow selections and I loved The Namesake. I haven't read this new one but I bet it'll fit the bill.

Our book club needs something good to read. A recent fiction novel that isn't too pop culture (to satisfy the English Lit majors in our group), but that also has a compelling enough plot to keep the more lowbrow folks reading too.

What book or author do you recommend?
