Pee Wee's big Adventure has the scary part with Large Marge that is over quickly.
I can't believe I just remembered that.

Something Wicked This Way Comes
Also suggest checking commonsense media website. They have a section on horror movies and it breaks down the details to help you decide what you want, or want to avoid, for your particualr kids.

Sorry. By preteens I meant 11 and 12. Just before the teen years, in other words.

The Shaggy Dog (old Disney version) is kind of scary but funny, and not gory. Night at the Museum is a bit scary but also fun.

Some of the old Edgar Allen Poe movies with Vincent Price were great.

What ages? My kids loved the Halloweentown movies when they were mid-elementary school.
Also you could go with Abbott and Costello meet the Mummy, etc., if they would enjoy a B&W movie.

Not in less? What?? Areyou trying to say "unless"?
Ok it with what parents? I'M the parent. I'm not talking about showing movies to other kids.

I used to love watching scary movies as a preteen and teen; but I wasn't watching Halloween and Friday the 13th at that age, more like the old 60s ones that were creepy but not violent and slasher-like. I am trying to get a handle on what would be good ones to start my kids out with that wouldn't be gratuitously violent. Ideas?
