I came here from a google search about Libby's having sand in it. You are not alone OP!

I have always used Libby's because it is what my grocery store carries year round. I think I will stock up on one of the organic types that always show up around this time of year. I have a 17 month old that loves pumpkin pancakes.

OP here. This is plain canned pumpkin, not the pie filling kind. I will try TJ's next, since I have to go there this week anyway.

I buy the canned pumpkin at Trader Joes. Never had a problem.

Is this plain canned pumpking, or canned pumpkin pie filling (already spiced)? Because I find the latter is usually of worse quality. I have been baking with plain canned pumpkin from TJs and like it.

I had that issue with pumpkin muffins- so funny that you mention it. I'm pretty sure it was Libby's that I used. It almost tasted like the baking powder hadn't incorporated well?

Costco pie is awesome...and only 5.99, great deal.

OP here. I know! I've never had issues with Libby's before. But like I said, I googled it and a lot of people have had the sandy grit thing happen, not sure if it's recent or not. Anyway, I'm going to just have to try another slice now and hope for the best!

+1

One jumped into my cart yesterday. It has been severely testing my resolve.

In the meantime, anyone have a brand of canned pumpkin they love?

Weird. I've been using Libby's for years and never had a problem.

Me either

Me either. It might be something else.

Did you overcook it even a little? That can cause a gritty texture in custard type pies

Has anyone else made one yet? I just baked one today, and have always followed the can's recipe. Doing it the same for years. It tastes great, but I am getting quite a bit of grittiness, like there's some sand in the pie. It's gross as far as the texture goes. Anyone else experience this?
