so then how do women define confidence in a man? I'm curious as some women have said I'm confident because of X; other women say I'm arrogant because of the same X.

A confident person never needs to put anyone else down or belabor a point in a discussion.
An arrogant person criticizes or argues because s/he knows (or thinks) they're correct.

A confident person gives compliments to others.
An arrogant person gives compliments to themselves and/or critiques the flaws of others.

A confident person jokes good-naturedly and builds rapport by reading social cues, apologizing when they cross the line, and avoiding sensitive issues.
An arrogant person "negs" or otherwise undermines people by exploiting their weaknesses for humor.

A confident man adheres to traditional guidelines of chivalry.
An arrogant man adheres to traditional expectations of male/female power dynamics.

Teach a guy how to clean and dress himself?!? Aha! Now I know where all those women complaining about their husbands thinking that they are mommy came from! They thought they were getting a hottie with "potential" and they end up with a 5 year old in a 40 year old body.

There's a balance. In my experience, guys who put too much effort into their appearance are self-centered

Good basic hygiene is pretty non-negotiable for me, but then the more important thing is the brain. Physical attraction (or lack thereof) is more a function of the intellectual attraction for me.

Somewhere in between. I don't want a dude that takes a long time to get ready or,spend too much time/money on his looks. I think he would be high maintenance. I don't want somebody who is a slob.

Someone with a good sense of humor. Suit or swim trunks and tank top, as long as it's clean.

Attention to detail is a better attribute than looks, in my opinion.
