Oh I can afford one. I just don't think it's sane to give a $500 phone to a 12 yr. old. Over-indulgence is a form of abuse according to some experts.

Anonymous wrote:It's some kind of crazy when an 11 or 12 yr. old has a $500 phone! I, at the age of 44, have an LG840g -- which cost $9.99 and $99 for a year of service. It allows me to make calls and text. Doesn't do internet. I don't need it. I expect to pass this on to my DD in a few years when she is 12-ish. IMO, it's perfect for a kid's first phone b/c it allows them to phone home and to text their friends. Nothing more -- and no $70/mo. bill. Also, no worries that the kid will lose an expensive item. (It's also perfect for people like me who don't get a phone paid by employer and who don't want to drop $900/year on service/data).
