I always thought the lead paint in the wooden LP tasted better than the plastic.

The ones with the wood heads AND bodies were the tastiest.

I wouldn't trust the older toys... and I wouldn't trust the majority of people who responded to your question, OP. It seems that a lot of them did get lead poisoning, based on their clever reasoning of, "It must be safe, because I played with them and am not dead," or the even more logical, "My child has been playing with older toys for a while now and so far, so good."

If there's a 30 - 34% chance that those old toys contain lead, cadmium or arsenic... are you willing to take that risk?

My kids play with a bunch if fisher price toys my oarents saved from my childhood, including the little people, and I don't think it's a problem. Much better tha today's versions!

I have some of my old ones and I let my kid play with them. They're plastic, and she doesn't stick things in her mouth much anyway. I do only let her play with them if I'm in the room because they are small enough to be choked on.

Also, for 19:41 anything I have from my old FP toys that are labeled say made in the USA.

Aren't the old ones stained wood and not painted wood. I'm pretty sure stain doesn't/didn't have lead.

I would say once they arent sticking things in their mouth its okay risk is minimal

Keep in mind that we played with the ones from the 70s and are hear to talk about it.

Um, the REALLY old ones are painted wood. So THOSE might have a lead issue. The "newer" vintage (from the mid-70s on probably) are plastic. But we had some from my older cousins that were wooden.

And yes, the older sets are much cooler than the current ones.

We have the old barn, and a playground, bus, etc. One got stuck down the drain, but otherwise we haven't had trouble. They're pretty large for a choking hazard, but I suppose it's possible. Have no idea about lead, but they're plastic, not painted, which I would think would minimize the risk.

I love the old Fisher Price Little People (we always called them Playskool People in the 70's.) I'm loookimg forward to playing with them with my baby when he's older, maybe around age 3. The new Little People aren't nearly as good. I understand that some babies have choked on the old ones, but isn't that primarily a supervision issue? I can't imagine giving them to a baby or a 2 year old.

I know the older Little People toys pose a choking hazard. Canada put out a warning:

My mother found a couple of these toys at a consignment store. They are the carousel and the activity center (1970's). My kids love playing with them! A friend was visiting and she noticed the toys and wondered if those "older" toys are lead-safe... Now it made me wonder. Anyone knows??
