Our company has stop work orders impacting about 25% of the workforce. So far, lots of juggling and shifting to get people coverage. They've set up furlough project codes for those who have nothing else to bill, and are asking people to do trainings, etc to keep busy.

Too soon to tell what will happen if this goes on longer.

Ptob isn't free - it impacts our overhead rates. We have a leave sharing bank that was closed to donations last year because there were so many hours, but I'm hoping they open it up and people are allowed to use it. But for now they want people doing something.

I'm covered - for now. But I work in operations so if the rest of the company is cut there will be cuts in operations.

I just called the MD unemployment office and contractors are not required to burn PTO before filing for unemployment benefits as a result of the furlough.

KPMG working here and yes we are getting paid however I'm working from home.

We've been asked to do training this week and PTO up to 2 days. We'll be told Monday what happens if this goes longer. They are looking for ways to make any burden spread more evenly if this drags out since it is not fair for people working at closed agencies to burn all their PTO and those at other agencies or working internally to not have any impacts.

How are some of you weighing the LWOP vs. PTO decision, if that is what you are given?

I have about 106 PTO hours banked, and enough savings to last several months. Not sure what to do. Any ideas?

DH works for a contractor, but one with government and private clients. He's not allowed to work on his two main projects/contracts, but for now they're keeping busy with internal/project development work. He claims to be as busy as ever, but I think there's lots of foolong around going on.

I'm a contractor for a government client. Received a stop work order yesterday. Sitting at home using PTO until it runs out and then LWOP.

Private company here with a lot of govt contracts--yeah, a lot of people are not getting paid.

Yet all the blowhards on the real estate board refuse to admit that even DC is susceptible to an economic blow. This IS going to effect our local economy, how can it not?

My brother works for a research contract firm and was told if the shutdown continues through Friday he will be laid off as of Saturday.

My husband is a federal contractor. He is stationed at a government building so he can't work there. So he's SOL and has to use PTO. They just don't have room at the main company's headquarters for all of the contractors who are displaced now because of the shutdown. If he uses up all of his PTO he won't be paid.

Depends on the agency.

If the agency is running they yes if not more than likely on PTO or vacation.

I'm a federal contractor who can't work. I'm just curious if federal contracting companies are paying their folks or taking alternative measures. What is your company doing? Are you not being paid? Do you have to take vacation, or make up the hours later? Or take training? For this week, I am taking online training and being paid, but that probably won't last long.
