They do a fantastic job the instructors are first rate and my daughter really enjoyed it and actually learned quite a bit. I think the cost was something like $130 for 6 weeks.

The PTA does have to pay for the rooms but they can also pay for it out of the profit of the club.

You are right. Completely slipped my mind. Activity buses are not offered for ES.

Ok..Good to know about the school space renting issue. If PTA does not sponsor then the cost would be higher I guess. I am going to ask the PTA and also ask if the interested parents can absorb the rental cost incase the PTA does not have the budget for it.

I am seeing lots of posts about CCES today. I just thought I'd point out that CCES has 6th grade, so it serves kids who are technically middle schoolers. This might have an impact on what is available.

There are definitely pros and cons to having the 6th graders is MS and not ES.

some school actually have clubs that are volunteer or are parent run that do not involve an outside vendor.

Lol. I know! They have something for every interest.

What I do envy is the convenience of having them at school. Once my DC comes back from school, I am driving him to martial arts, team sports, art class etc. If it was offered at school than would be easier for me as well as him - especially on days when activity buses are available.

OMG I just followed that link, and Chevy Chase Elementary has an Advanced Stock Market Game club. And plays and yearbook and "Shakespeare Intensive." I don't know if I'm appalled or jealous or what.

All after-school enrichment programs are run by private companies, and all are brought in through the PTA and paid for by parents. These companies would love to start programs at your school -- just look around for them, talk to your PTA, and give them a call. Great Adventure Lab seems to be the main lego robotics one, but there is also Mad Science that do other science related programs.

Our ES has 1 or 2 clubs but since I was browsing Chevy Chase ES PTA and found out that they have many clubs. http://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/schools/chevychasees/students/afterschoolclubs.aspx

So, maybe we can have a robotics club at our ES. Just a thought, I know this will cost money, but maybe there is interest for this stuff. If we won't ask, we won't get - right?
