Op here: I know, she's been like this her entire life but since she had Larla she thinks it's a 'get out of jail free card' in te sense that everyone should drop everything because SHE had a baby

So what did you tell her?

PP here who asked about the back story. That makes more sense now. But WTF- I can't imagine my sister doing this to me. If she asked nicely, I would probably have no problem doing it on an as-needed, or temporary (ok, let's try a few weeks and then re asses).... but never ASSUMED

Op here: good news: he got the job bad news: I 'have' to watch larla.

And there is no 'back story' with this, she's just the kind of person who expects everyone to adhere to her ridiculousness

This makes no sense.

And I say no in about .0000025 seconds. As the PP said, I would assume they were joking.

OP, I can promise you that this would NEVER happen to me. I would have erupted into laughter and said something like "Ha! Okay, good joke, talk to you later!" Ain't gonna happen. EVER.

OP can you give more info? This seems ridiculous!
Why was it "good news and bad news" - did they previously NOT need it, and now they do? It just seems like completely out of nowhere, unless there was discussion beforehand that youre leaving out.

You: (laugh first as if her instruction is hilarious): "I have bad news for you, you need to find a babysitter - I have obligations on Tuesdays every week!"

So who will be watching the child for the rest of the days? I'm sure your brother in law isn't only working on Tuesdays.

No. No. No. No. No!

If you want to help your family out, that's all well and wonderful, but do it on YOUR terms, not THEIRS. And address the way your sister "requested" this of you as well.

Personally, I can't say what I'd do. My idiot sisters, at this point in time, would never "request" something of me in such a blatantly rude manner because I would literally kill them and bury them under my floorboards.... or maybe just curse them out. Whatever I'm in the mood for, lol

What????

Just say no!

Just say, "I have some good news and bad news for you. I won't be able to watch Larla on my days off."

OP, the most important thing is you not answer the question "why not?". DO NOT GIVE REASONS. Just keep saying, "I'm sorry but that won't be possible." If she says "But you have to tell me WHY it won't be possible," just reply that no, actually you don't have to.

Tell them no. You will watch Larla at your house with them transporting.

I would say you will do it for a few weeks until they find something permanent.

What they are asking/expecting of you is unreasonable.

My bil got a new job, before doing so my sister assumed I woul be willing to watch my neice on my day off (tuesday) If he got this job. They live an hour and would expect me to drive there and provide 10 hours of childcare in addition to the 50+ I work now. I don't mind helping out sometimes but them assuming I'll do this weekly without consulting me is seriously driving me insane. On top of that the way she told me pisses me of to no end. Her statement exactly 'I have some good and bad news, you going to have to watch Larla on your days off because we don't want to do day care'. As if I as an adult don't have a choice.
