Strawberry Basket Cake on epicurious.com

I don't know how to make the basket-weave style frosting. But no one cares. This cake is out of this world fabulous. I only make it once a year for my spouse's birthday.

I make cheesecake using the America's Test Kitchen recipe and I've gotten maybe twelve million compliments on it? People go crazy for it. I also use the Better Homes and Garden recipe for chocolate chip cookies and people love that too.

Hypothetical. Just gathering ideas. I entertain a lot - sometimes for one other couple, sometimes for 20 people... I'm always trying to top myself.

I make apple matzoh pudding with homemade whipped cream. Always a huge hit. And yes, I make it during non-Passover times when entertaining people who are all members of the tribe.

I had a guest over for dinner who'd studied at some famous French cooking school who could NOT wrap her head around the fact that my pie was frozen from the supermarket. She was like, "But ... but ... the crust?!" Yes. Mrs. Smith's.

She was lying about something. Mrs Smith's is good but not that good.

Depends on what is for dinner. Tortes seem to impress people, as does creme brûlée even though it is easy. In the summer, a fruit tart looks very pretty. Lots of miniatures seem to get a good response, too - mini key like pies, mini apple pies, etc. finally, chocolate lava cake with homemade ice cream is my favorite. But it is easy peasy.
