How long does Powell's immersion program continue? Doesn't it end fairly early like Bethune's?

^^ Which is very strange IMO. OP probably is looking for a more traditional dual immersion, which continues the immersion into the upper grades. She could try for Oyster OOB admission. I turned down a pre-K spot for them this year.

Bethune isn't immersion after K. At some point the Spanish is filtered out and kids take a class only.

It's immersion until 3rd grade

Immersion stops at the end of 2nd grade. Spanish classes start in 3rd grade.

My DD is at Powell and it's going great. The Petworth neighborhood is affordable and the school is slated for more renovations.

make sure you check out the DC School Profiles - here is the link for Bruce Monroe:

If I remember correctly, a reason why Bruce Monroe is "Dual Language" is driven by the high percentage of English Language Learners.

I grew up in Dallas. Welcome to the area. I know one of the teachers at Bruce-Monroe and she is terrific.

You didn't specify DCPS or Charter - but would also check out DC Bilingual in Columbia Heights. I think they are moving next year and space may open up (but I'm not directly familiar with the school).

We live 3 blocks from Bruce-Monroe and love the Park View neighborhood but I know a lot of neighborhood families haven't yet embraced the school. With their new renovation last year that may change going forward. It is a beautiful facility and worth checking out.

Was thinking the same thing until I noticed the ages. 2nd grader this year means 3rd grader next year, and I remember MV saying they wouldn't accept kids after 2nd grade. Anyone else hear different?
