People who lie about their age are insecure and have some preconceived notion about what their actual age is supposed to be like . They don't want to be associated with those notions so they lie to fit the age they want to be associated with. It's immature.

Because people will presumably still believe you are very young, even if you look older. Looks is not the only benefit of being young. You can also appear more accomplished, mature, less desperate (if you are dating) even you look older than your fictional age. It can help get certain jobs or opportunities.

Usually only really young and old people ask and care about age. So if you're not the former, it's obviously you're old so stop asking!

I think the OP is referring to when when the person lying doesn't look like they are "younger" they in fact look their age.

If you're gonna lie, why would you being 45 years old say that you are 35. Wouldn't it make more sense to lie "up". If I'm 45, I would say "I'm 55" then I just look good for my age. It is kind of dumb to say that you are 30 when you are 45.. you just look bad for your age!
