When we were away last Christmas my 5yo was worried how Santa would get presents to her. I told her Santa knows where all the kids are and brings presents to them where they are. So you could say that.

We also don't do lots of presents from Santa, usually just one per kid. I don't like him getting all the credit

I am in the same boat I have four kids on 21 and the others are under 5. My oldies ts son is turning 6 on the 13 of dec so we surprising after his party with the news about Disney but the issue is Santa. We are bringing a couple of small gifts for Christmas morning in Disney but when we get hi me there will be Santa presents waiting for them. My friends have offered to help with that.

Make this subtle. I remember being the kid who's mom would say "this costs _____ and do you know how much I have to work to get this for you?" it isn't a good feeling to be 6 and feel that you are a burden because you cost money.

Not saying you would do this OP, just an observation.


Thanks-I totally understand and my parents did that too! I just talk to him about it so that he has the concept that we work hard and get to do xyz but learning to appreciate, etc. We went last year and did not plan to go back so soon but friends are going and the age difference is large and this would be the last perfect window for them to all enjoy being together there before the kids are off to college, etc. I had told him it would be three years until we went back and now its only 15 months later we are returning.

Santa knows you are travelling, take the video with you, and have the gifts over by the AC unit...with a note saying the other gifts are at the house

Santa always used to fly with our presents. Obviously this is different now that TSA has to be huge pains and doesn't allow wrapped gifts.

We also used to leave cookies and a note for santa on the counter that we were at grandma's house or wherever.

Thanks! The one thing I don't want to do is say that the trip is from Santa because I am trying hard to teach him about money and how hard we have to work to earn it and this trip is so expensive. I just want him to appreciate why we are not able to go that often not because I'm trying to brag to my six year old that we paid and not him! I like the idea of a letter from Santa before-hand and maybe I'll give some small things to my inlaws to come and place by our fireplace while we are gone.

My sister and her husband did this for their two kids several years ago. She kept the trip a secret and the morning of departure the doorbell rang ( a neighbor) and when the kids opened the door on the porch was two boxes and a letter. I forget what was in the boxes, but it was something Disney related. The letter was from Santa and it said that he brought their present- the trip- early so they could leave right away. Everyone got dressed and drove to the airport. Christmas morning was a few presents from my sister and her husband and I think the grandparent's sent their presents to the hotel. The kids had a blast and Santa came early.

Uh! A note from Santa to the whole family advising he has paid for the trip and left eerybody a little something in the hotel bathroom. And I mean Little Gifts.

it's super easy to fool kids regarding Santa, as long as they like it. You can decide what to tell them and just stick with it. Tell them the gift cards are from Santa. Since Santa always knows what they're up to, he'll know they're at Disney. You can let them find a gift card form Santa Christmas morning.

And a couple small presents back at the fireplace to surprise them when they get back. (because kids really like Santa best at home.)

Say that Santa delivered the presents to your house while you are away--maybe have someone move them from your hiding place to the fireplace before you get home. And then also include a note from Santa explaining that the trip was also part of the presents since there won't be many presents when you get home.
