I HATE the way baking soda is packaged and much prefer the baking powder tins. Why is baking soda in the crappy cardboard?!!

Yes!

And the baking soda can is a different color than the baking powder can.

I think they may have had some pushback from the calumet baking powder people. Originally, their baking powder looked just like the calumet. Now they have changed that to a yellow round container. The soda is still maroon.

I love the idea (baking soda in boxes sucks) but yes, they should switch the colors out. Seriously, write to TJs. If enough people do, they may change the packaging. They do change packaging from time to time.

I'm normally a big label reader, but I've got to admit I think I would have done the exact same thing as you, OP.
My sympathies--that would have been really frustrating!

I just ruined a batch of cookies because the tjs baking soda is in a container that looks like baking powder. Am I the only person who has done this? The baking soda comes in a maroon round container that looks very much like calumet baking powder. I bought it thinking it was their store brand of baking powder -I have never seen baking soda sold in a round tin like that-and I've always seen baking powder sold like that. Argh-frustrating. I know it's my fault but who would they package the soda to look like the powder?
