Serious question: Are there any MS/HS options in DC that offer both a sharp, engaged peer group and a light-to-manageable homework load?

My first grader was stressing out about grades and homework so far this school year. I am not even sure he will get grades yet. I told him he needs to relax or school will make him insane. I find it all worrisome because if he is so stressed now; what will middle and high school be like. First graders should run and play, NOT do homework!
