I live in Panama, and it is great. It's not as cheap as other LA countries but a very nice place. Good luck to you!

We been considering this for years and are fans of Latin America. I would figure on having access to $30-35 K per year to live on and be able to fly to US here and there. Be sure and adjust for inflation in the future. You may want to come back to the US at some point so make sure you know of a lower cost of living area than the DC area that you could enjoy.

Chances are at your age, you could/would find something to do work-wise, part-time, even if volunteering once you land in your new home. You may even have some income from it but I wouldn't plan on that.

Good luck!

How much do you plan to spend on the ladies?

1 million will do.Move to Eastern Europe or Latin America. You'll be bored though if you don't work even a little.
I'll be moving to North Eastern Europe-4 seasons and not as densely populated as other parts of EU.

Having immigrated once before, I am pretty convinced that learning a new language, new social and financial system, new system of medical services (or lack thereof) etc. is not something I will do again voluntarily, certainly not in my older years.

I just don't want to spend my younger and more energetic years in a cubicle.

Kids will be in college in the beginning and when they have their own families I will visit them for extended visits and they can visit me.

I figured I can learn a few languages and make new friends in about 20 years time

Do you really want to spend your older and more vulnerable years away from your kids in a county whose culture and language you may not understand, where you have no family and no "connections," and where you would be one of the "wealthy ones" to be taken advantage of?

Thanks for the link... I will check it out.

Not counting on any Social Security to be honest (I've paid into the system etc...)

I'm open to living in Latin America and Asia. Some parts of Europe are options as well..I agree Paris is out.

Not sure how long I will live but let's say 90 years....

Check out the forums at http://www.early-retirement.org/ . Fair amount of discussions about overseas retirement, as well as appropriately sized nest eggs.

Single dad here with two kids (High School and Middle School). I lost everything during the 2008 Financial crash and had start all over again saddled with debt. I'm debt free now (woohoo!) but I"m just burned out from work and personal issues in my life. I earn a great income and finally have some savings. I'm so done with the rat race and just want to check out early and retire around the age of 42 to 45..I'm 38 right now.

I have no pension or retirement…all I would have is my savings. I'm wondering what is the right savings amount to be a true escape artist? $500K, $1Mil, $2Mil

I'm thinking if I can reach about $1 Million in savings I could live off that and enjoy a nice lifestyle abroad. Am I being naive? Should I even bother putting funds into a retirement account at this point or just pile it all into savings?

Any other tips or insights would be appreciated...Thank You!!!
