My DS (9) swims on a club team. He holds his own, winning some heats, sometimes placing high in races, but that doesn't really matter to me.
DS plays other sports. I go and watch him play. I'm bored when he's out of the game. Someimtes I even get a little bored when he's in the game. But not swimming.
DH asked me the other night why I am such a rabid swim fan. I mean, I can barely swim. It's not like he is carrying on my great family tradition of swimming because really only my dad can swim, and he never was on a team. I am a total nut about swimming. I watched more of the Olympics than anybody, including DS. I pay rapt attention to his swims at meets. I think it has something to do with the beauty of swimming, the way a good swimmer moves thorugh the water with such grace. (Except for DS's fly - his fly isn't so pretty!)
I just wondered of the other rabid swim parents out there - and I know some in real life but am too embarrassed to ask this question - what is it? What makes you so passionate about swimming?
If you were a competitive swimmer, and your parents were rabid swim fans, was that creepy or OK as long as you knew they were fine with however you did?
