Yeah, it's pretty outside the realm of possibility and that is just one of the inconsistencies in her post. She originally said that the aunt was using a supplemental nursing system (SNS). This is tubing that directs formula to a small outlet that is taped next to the caregiver's nipple so that when the baby sucks for the breastmilk, it both stimulates supply and gets formula out. OP said that the aunt was using this SNS to placate the child to drink formula and stimulate her supply. She later said that the aunt had to exclusively pump for the baby because the baby wouldn't take breastmilk. So which is it? There were a few other implausibilities that other posters have pointed out. For one thing, there's just no chance that a mom would stay locked up in a room for a week without anyone intervening. If this IS real, the OP should have her IP reported so that the police / authorities can get in and help that baby, because the OP has put on a thread that irresponsible caregivers are withholding urgent medical attention from a "starving baby" who has not eaten or drank anything for over 20 hours - a medical emergency. A child in that condition would be hospitalized.

I sick of people flipping out when they think they see a troll post. If you think it's a troll, do not click on the thread, and do not respond. It's ridiculous for folks to expect Jeff to be "Troll Police" 24/7.
For my part, I think that truth is often stranger than fiction, and while I'm sure there are made up posts, I think human beings are wacky enough to engage in many of the behaviors that people immediate suspect of being a troll.
However, troll or not, it's not Jeff's job to shield your precious sensibilities from every potential troll post. You don't like it, just move on.

really? It doesn't strike you as odd that an out of town poster would come onto DCUM and look for advice for a baby who has not eaten for 20 hours? And that the baby has not had medical attention? And that supposedly the "authorities" would not intervene at all? And the dad sends the baby off to the aunt? Who has weaned four months ago but suddenly is not only able to relactate but is able to FULLY relactate within a few days, not just a few oz but enough to fully feed baby? And the baby WAS nursing through a supplemental nursing system, but then suddenly would only take breastmilk from a cup? But would not take formula? And they gave baby some rice cereal but then baby had to be weaned off of that? And then that this is being discussed on facebook?

Seriously? Look the same troll posts all of the time. Maybe she's on vacation so she gets a new place to post from so you don't suspect. I would bet 1000 that it is a troll. And, the same troll should at least try to refrain from saying "ladies..." it's one of many fingerprints.

Just don't click on the thread if it upsets you so much. Christ.

The thread doesn't upset me in the slightest because it is pure fiction and not even very inspired fiction at that. But what upsets me is how someone comes on DCUM preying on the people who don't recognize obvious trolling. Jeff gives people the benefit of the doubt unless he can prove trolling. That's fine and probably for the best. But let's not delude ourselves into believing every f'd up tall tale told here.

Ok. Does anyone believe 100% of what they read on the internet? What is the big deal?

How do you know it is a troll?

I agree. The title of that thread is terrible. To use the term "starving" and then discuss on DCUM rather than going to the police or the hospital is just unreal. I would like to see that thread go away. I try to ignore it!

Yes, I've reported and encourage others to report so that more than one person raises the issue. Jeff will look at the IP address and at least rule out it being a known troll. However, some trolls post from multiple locations (work, coffee shops, phone, home, etc) so it's not always easy for him to tell if it's a troll. I believe he errs on the side of allowing posts to stay, even when many recognize trolling. Some trolls have finger prints. This one certainly does - phrases she / (or he) uses to rile up the masses.

I'm tired of trolls preying on the emotions of posters here. I guarantee this is a troll. I'm sick of it. Trolls are ruining the DCUM experience.
