We love The Cabins at Rose River Farm and have stayed there several times. The only problem is that they only have three cabins and book up well in advance. We are not fly fishers but they are supposed to have some of he best fly fishing in Virginia. The mountain views (Old Rag is 5 min away and is a great hike) are incredible and best of all its only about 1:45 fom DC on your way to Charlottesville. They have a nice website http://www.roseriverfarm.com

Where to stay in Lost River?? My parents decided they want to go to the mountains for Columbus Day weekend, and now I need to find someplace with availability!

The western NC mountains are fantastic and that is not bashing any other area but if you have ever vacationed there and experienced the Blue Ridge mountain pleasures you would understand. Hiking, white water rafting, gem mining or just driving the Blue Ridge is a vacation the children never forget.

We love Douthat State Park in VA. You can stay in a cabin there, climb up the mountain and gaze down at the beautiful views. We stayed there every year for Thanksgiving for many years before kids. Now that we have kids, we are back to staying there as well. Now we tend to hang out at the beach/playgrounds, but we love climbing those mountainous trails.

Wv! We just stayed near Seneca Rocks - it was awesome. A lot of the cabins are close to the road, but there is tons of hiking and fishing just a short drive away.

No need to bash the mountains around here. Go live there then. Oh - forgot - the job situation sucks down there? Maybe you should crawl out of your hole again and check out some of the absolute natural beauty within an hour and half drive from here.

Although I agree, I really don't want to travel that far. I'd like to be within 3 hrs.

I am interested in renting a cabin in the mountains. I looked at many places but not sure about location. VRBO has tons of options but where? Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland?

Looking for strenuous hiking and fishing. Any ideas you have would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
