How would you suggest avoiding a school with a strong drug culture if you don't know which ones they are?

Visit. Read up on college culture. (Back in the day I liked "Insider's Guide to the Colleges," though there may be better resources in this internet age.)

Kenyon? The rest I get, although I'd put Dartmouth more in the category of category V hurricane-strong drinking.

+1. Also many kids come from pretty privileged backgrounds.

Otherwise, I think all colleges have a subculture of partying. Not all students participate.

Or Principia. It's Christian Scientist and apparently quite strict.

Power down the helicopter, mom. If your child is old enough to go to college, they're old enough to make their own decisions regarding drug use. And believe me, "strong drug culture" or not, if they wants drugs they will find them.

Every college has either a drug culture or drinking culture. I would worry more about the latter. I don't think its possible to avoid.

My DD is going through the application process. I've been focused on grades, scores, majors. But the other threads on this board got me wondering and worried about which of these great fit schools might actually have a strong drug culture.
