Can you think of any remakes that surpassed the original, off the top of your head? I always find them disappointing.

Land Before Time. Same exact story, just with today's animation capabilities.

What about "defending your life"? Although I do think it's close to perfection as-is.

Red Dawn remake sucked.

But, I'd like to see Breakfast Club or 16 Candles remade. Or Heathers. Or Pump up the Volume. Any others?

The breakfast club would never work -- the helicopter parents would get half of the kids out of detention, and/or the kids would be bored on their cell phones most of the time.
Leave the classic John Hughes movies alone, please.

Leave John Hughes movies alone!! They are perfection as they are, and any non-80s remake would just be feeble.

Some of the Alfred Hitchcock films could be great with modern twists and actors like Daniel Craig.

The "modern twists" would likely just be violence - which, while it was a subject, wasn't ever really depicted in Hitchcock's films.

It's been a long time since I've seen either, but I think Birth of a Nation and Gone With The Wind would be great - from another perspective. I would love to see GWTW from Mammy's perspective. I suppose that would just reinforce the stereotype of black women only playing maids and slaves, but she was my favorite character and I'd love to see her story fleshed out.

I was thinking more modern technology and sensibilities.

It was awful, just awful, I wish I could unsee it and get that time back.

The original sucked. I didn't even realize they made a re-make.

Honestly, they should leave anything by John Hughes alone. Heathers was pretty re-markable and doesn't warrant a re-make.

Pump the Volume could have been a better a movie and not sure it would translate into a remake anyway.

The original was ground breaking. It is even the reason there is a PG-13 rating.

The Star Wars prequel trilogy. This time, let Spielberg direct it.
