All the time. I assumed it has been hybridized or GMO'd to loom awesome and survive shipping.

GMO fruit, always sweet.

The reason is that they pick the fruit green, and it ripens it storage when it arrives. If picked at the right time, this mostly works, but if picked too soon it will never ripen properly. But it is much easier to pick something too soon when it is hard and won't bruise then it is to pick it on time when it will rot before it can be sold.

And sometimes the stars just don't align. I bought apples from a local farm and they were mealy. I asked why, and the farmer said that variety just had a bad year, and he replaced them with another variety that were tasty.

This is why I pretty much gave up fruit - it just tastes bad 95% of the time. Except pineapple, but they're bred so sweet now one might almost just as well buy canned in syrup.

Yes. It has happened twice this year. Both times the fruit was from Whole Foods. White peaches, plums, ack!

Watermelon, especially seedless, I find is tasteless more often than not. Unless it's the middle of the summer and I'm buying from a fruit stand. Same with peaches that aren't hight of summer.

All the time. Fruit is so often tasteless these days.

Yes and it's so disappointing. I still eat it for the fiber.

A lot of fruit these days doesn't taste like much. It's very sad and says so much about our farming practices and where our food is coming from.

Farmers' markets or pick-your-own farms usually have the best tasting fruit.

All the time. Where is there tasty fruit? Wegmans has decent, but not great stuff, but really most fruits are so woody, tasteless, sometimes rotten deep inside and just plain bad no matter what time of year. We eat mostly veggies because of this.

I hate it too. That is why everytime I go to WF now and start talking with one of the employees at the produce section and ask them "is this nectarine juicy and sweet?" (it was nectarine last week), to which they will ALWAYS, ALWAYS insist to cut up some for me to try right them and there. They are also pretty honest about their opinion ("oh, I didn't like this peach much. It is not very juicy" etc)

The nectarines were delicious and I bought some for my DD who loved. I don't always ask about strawberries or blueberries or grapes, but I used to have so much bad luck with some fruits such as nectarines, plums, peaches, pineapples, (and some others), that now I always ask.

I had that with a cantaloupe yesterday. It was just blah. I hate wasting food so I ate it anyway though...

We recently bought a 10 lb box of oranges from Costco. Every single one tasted like cardboard. I understand this is not exactly citrus season, but it was just so awful.

It didn't taste bad; rather, it didn't taste like anything at all. Void of flavor. And mealy. This was a pint of red plums from Whole Foods. And no, I'm not going to run back to WF whining about it. It happens. But every time it does, it's disappointing. Not a big problem, but I was looking forward to enjoying those plums. I don't know enough about horticulture to know why that happens (no taste). Better luck next time. Usually I'm pleased with their (WF) produce.
