I am a DH and I have females that are in my FB favorites that I am friends with and I have never had any other kind of relationship with.. So don't think that just because a member of the opposite sex is on your S/O FB favorites that they are sleeping with them.

People who travel a lot for work seem to start affairs, so maybe one answer to the question would be that an affair starts when one spouse has multiple opportunities to engage in bad behavior due to being in a different place than the other on a regular basis.

Easier with a close family friend and safer... Others online...

My ex-wife started hers on Facebook. She sent a message to an old boyfriend from high school to just "catch up." That led to sending texts because he didn't have time to check Facebook, and then phone calls because they didn't feel like texting anymore. They were so amazed at how much they had in common.
