Post 09/14/2013 01:06     Subject: New job offer after SAH for 10 years

I was out for a few years and decided to put just a toe out there to test the waters. Lo and behold, I got an offer two weeks later for literally the ONLY job I applied for. It was perfect... Work from home, part time, in my field. I was nervous though because I thought the process would take at least half a year and I wasn't mentally ready to actually start work yet but I took the job anyway. Here I am three years out and it's still a great gig for me! When an opportunity comes along, just take it and figure out all the details later.

Congratulations. I'm a SAHM looking for work, and I'd jump at a part time job. I've had no luck so far, so I'm jealous too. Take the job, OP! Don't hesitate -- yes, there will be some adjustments, but take it take it take it!! Good Luck

Assuming the job isn't prostitution, if you don't accept it, I'm going to find you and slap you.

+1 I'm envious!

I'm so excited. Thank you all!

Great! I would take it!

I think you should take the interview. At a minimum, you will be practicing your interview skills. And, if you get the job (if I'm reading your post correctly, this is just an interview, right?), then decide from there. If the job was a good fit for you (skills/interest/salary/schedule/team), then I would say go for it even though you are a bit ahead of schedule.

Do you consider 3 years an extended period? If so- the initial change was hard, but my child adjusted so quickly to the new situation, made tons of friends, loved his daycare provider, loved all of the activities they did, now loves FT preschool. It really worked out very well, and I'm happy I went back.

When my son started kindergarten and I was looking for a teaching job, I couldn't find one. For more than 2 years! So, if you have a job offer, take it! It did require much more planning ahead for days off school (we are in different counties) but I was just so happy to find something, it didn't matter.

I've been staying at home for 10 years. Through the past few months I've been slowly reaching out feeling the market trying to come up with something to do that will allow me to work PT and use our Au Pair as little as possible. She arrives in December. Our kids are not FT in school yet.

The problem is, I just got an invitation for an interview to start immediately at the new job. I'm suddenly feeling. Mix of happiness, anxiety and relief. The hours are just perfect since DH will come home early and stay with the kids the days I work.

If you stayed at home for an extended period of time how did you feel going back to work? Was it very difficult? What was the biggest challenge and what was the best part?
