I've used a smaller pan before. Not ideal, but okay. Coins on foil is a good idea.

just kidding. where are you? I can loan you some beans or my pie weights.

Ha! You had me there for a second. I'm actually closer to Baltimore than DC/Va, but thanks for the offer. So surprised that someone's being helpful on here instead of calling me a bitch or something

Oops. Just reread and saw that you don't have dried beans. You can use coins. You could probably use an ovenproof dish - I don't see why that wouldn't work.

Other than rice, I can't really think of anything. Little pebbles, I guess, if you're comfortable with that, but I personally wouldn't do it.

Do you have a metal frying pan of extra pie plate that will fit inside the crust?

I have rice, but would I be able to re-use it for eating after it had been baked, do you think? I was also thinking I could use a casserole dish on top of a layer of foil.

I use dried rice. You probably could use any kind of dry non-combustible vaguely inert food product, though. Lentils, chickpeas, quinoa (not so heavy, though), oats ...

OP here. I can't find my dried beans, that's why I'm asking!

Rice works -- really any food product will work.

I'm making a tart for dinner tonight and the dried beans that I usually use for pie weights are nowhere to be found. Does anyone have a suggestion for something else to use? Can I use an ovenproof dish? Thanks!
